Asphyxia
- Asphyxia is the medical condition of being deprived of oxygen due to interference with the oxygen supply of the blood. Asphyxiation can occur from cold, drowning, choking, smoke inhalation, trauma, noxious gases or neonatorum in a new born child. First aid resuscitation treatment for asphyxia may involve use of the Heimlich Maneuver to dislodge foreign objects from the air passageway and artificial respiration to maintain respiratory movements by artificial means.
