- Jock itch is the commonly used name for a fungal infection of the groin area known as tinea cruris, a common mens health issue caused by the fungus known as trichophyton rubrum related to the same family of fungus that causes athletes foot, ringworm, favus and yeast infections in women. Symptoms of jock itch include a rash with itchy red bumps in the area of the groin. In the majority of cases, jock itch treatment with over-the-counter jock itch cream and jock itch remedies containing containing non-prescription anti-fungal medicine such as clotrimazole or miconazole can provide a jock itch cure with consistent treatment usually over a period of several weeks or more.
